Disposal

Following the cessation of production at the Bridgend ROF at the end of 1945 the government set about disposing of its asset through the Board of Trade and set up the Bridgend Industrial Trading Estate. Detail of this can be found in Geoffrey Percival’s work on “The Governments Industrial Estates in Wales”. (See Glamorgan Reference Library).

During the period from 1938 to 1945 the Arsenal had accumulated vast amounts of inventory, in the form of plant and machinery, much of this was sold off as scrap, or sold to industry.

Even the local populous got in on the act by buying chairs and office furniture for their businesses or wartime depleted homes.

The Waterton and Brackla sites were sold off to property investors who set about clearing the site by bulldozing most of the buildings, and levelling the site before subletting it for Industrial development.
